I finally figured out what I wanted to be when I grew up at 35, and didn't make it a profitable business until I was almost 40. About 7 years after starting my jewelry business, I realized that if I wanted to scale it, I would have to be open to selling my jewelry in multiple ways. Full transparency here, my jewelry business has never been a source of income that my family has depended on month after month. I am fortunate that my husband’s job paid the bills, and my business paid for the extras, like sports and extracurriculars for my kids and vacations.
This is when I made scaling the wholesale side of my business a priority. At the time we had 5-7 local stores that were buying wholesale from us, but not consistently, and not in HUGE volumes. After a disastrous 2019(personally) and 2020(the pandemic), I turned my focus to seeking out new wholesale accounts and sat down with my business coach to make a plan. When she said I needed a plan as to what my business would look like if I had 50 wholesale accounts, I laughed at her. We blew past that first 50 new accounts pretty quick, and now have over 250 accounts.
I had loads of questions in the beginning and searched for resources to help answer them. After three years of learning all I could and putting those practices into play, I decided to share my knowledge of the wholesale and product world with others.
